Since the early 1800s standardized testing has played a major role in many life aspects especially in education. The “ACT” and “SAT” are the most known test as they both play a role in the college process. In the public-school education system, standardized testing is an important aspect. High scores are believed to be the key to success and acceptance to well-known colleges but the truth is these tests are not the only thing colleges are looking for. Yes, these high scores may mean that a certain individual has studied hard and gotten an amazing score.
On the other hand, maybe individual have gotten lucky filling in the scantron to look like a Christmas tree. There are many reason as to why I believe that standardized testing should be removed but my first reason is stress. The stress that is put upon students will cause the students to have low performance on their test due to high pressure stress. Another reason is that these test are not fit to fulfill the needs of all individuals. They do not accommodate students who are not fluent in English or students with special need.
In addition standardized test isn’t truly necessary because it only covers a small portion of the true meaning of education. So as I mentioned standardized testing shouldn’t be a requirement, it is reliable nor valid. Therefore, the point I am trying to get make is that it’s important to remind teachers, students, parents and more that these standardized tests are just tests, it shouldn’t be a requirement it’s not reliable and valid the way it’s being advertised to be. We should not take away from other activities which help students tap into their creative sides and allows them to be themselves,
Adopt don't Shop by Niyah Goodwin
Every year, at least 2 million dogs and cats are euthanized because the shelters are too packed and there is not enough space to hold them. This is partially because few people consider adoption when it comes to looking for pets.
People should adopt pets, and stop buying them.
There are thousands, maybe even millions of animals that can be adopted and shelters offer a large variety of animals for anyone to choose from. There are different types of shelters that have pure breed animals, mixed breeds, etc. There is an option for anybody who wants a pet.
Additionally, adopting a pet will cost less than if someone were to buy from a breeder. Animals at shelters usually have their first vaccinations and may be house-trained already.
Adopting one pet makes more space for another animal to come into the shelter. The shelters take care of all these animals and make sure they are healthy and prepared to go to a good home.
The amount of animals that are euthanized could be significantly reduced if people would stop buying animals, and instead adopt them from their local shelter. Adopting an animal would ensure that they go to a safe home and this makes more space in shelters for more animals. People may say that shelters don’t have the type of dog or cat that they want, but shelters have many different animals of all breeds, colors, etc. Animal shelters have many varieties of animals to pick from.
Adopting animals would ensure that more animals are saved and put into a good home. Adopt, don’t shop!
The Shades of Bullying by Kache Tremble
Bullying has been around for a long time. It has impacted the learning environment for thousands of kids. Can take place at home and at school and children do not feel safe. Affecting kids as old as seven and up, it has damaged people’s lifestyles and well-being. Bullying is unnecessary, aggressive behavior that can belittle one person to empower another. With many types of bullying such as, verbal bullying, social bullying, physical bullying, and cyberbullying, the tendency of bullies can hurt someone badly. Bullying needs to be ended.
Long-term bullying can lead to depression and the feeling that you are worthless. No one should have to feel that way because of words or physical abuse. Also causes trust issues and social anxiety later in that person’s adult life. It can cause a change in behavior or mood swings that can affect him/her and the people around them. In some cases, bullying can create suicidal thoughts. Or even make someone inflict harm on themselves and want to commit suicide. Bullying has kicked off a hefty 4,400 suicidal deaths per year. Statistically proven, 49% of children grades 4-12 have reported being bullied in the past month and 30.8% reported bullying others in the same month.
Most people believe bullying isn’t as hard as it seems but, they will never fully understand bullying until they experience it themselves. The logical solution to end bullying would be to tell an adult or someone you trust, don't bully back, do not show that the bully is getting to you, and stand up for yourself. You must be brave and radiate confidence. Bullying needs to be properly addressed and demolished. By standing up for yourself, telling an adult and not bullying back, and helping others with bullying, you can end bullying!
